Emeritus Professor Lakshman SAM Samaranayake is a renowned clinical academic
with expertise in clinical microbiology and executive level administration. Recently he
was ranked the No 11 microbiologist in China out of 43,767 scientists by the
research.com organisation https://research.com/scientists-rankings/microbiology/cn.
The author of over many texts, and 450 scientific communications – cited over 33,500
occasions (h-index 100), Professor Samaranayake has served over 13 years as the
Executive Dean of dental schools in Hong Kong, Australia, and UAE. It is generally
acknowledged that his inspiring decade-long leadership propelled the University of
Hong Kong as the No1 dental school in the world form 2015-2017 (QS World University rankings).
He has received numerous accolades for his exceptional contributions to
dentistry, including the King James IV Professorship of the Royal College of
Surgeons of Edinburgh, UK, and the Distinguished Scientist Award of IADR, USA.
He holds many visiting/adjunct professoriate appointments in the universities of
Thailand, Australia, UK, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, and China. He is the current Editor-in-
Chief of the International Dental Journal, the flagship journal of the FDI.
